Electroluminescence is an optical phenomenon for certain materials or material combinations to emit light in response to the passage of an electric current. Electroluminescent sheet, also called EL sheet, EL backlight panel, EL sheet panel and EL foil, is a technical application of electroluminescence for converting electric energy into light. EL sheet and EL wire glow moderately well but not that brightly. Due to its unusual characteristics, the spectrum of application is extremely varied. This includes, for instance, safety lighting, self-illuminating fittings, background lighting for displays and self-illuminating laminate for floor designs.
